Who Is An Architect?

They are registered professionals trained in the art and science of the design and construction of buildings and structures that primarily provide shelter. They An architect will create the overall aesthetic and look of buildings and structures, but the design of a building involves far more than its appearance. In addition to aesthetics, buildings must be functional, safe, and economical and must suit the specific needs of the people who use them.  An architect is responsible to construct buildings with the public’s health, safety, and welfare in mind.

How To Pursue The Career:

  1. Name of the course – Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch)
  2. Course duration -5 years
  3. Eligibility –  10+2 Science stream or equivalent. The necessary minimum grade is 60%.
  4. Entrance Tests – NATA, JEE & Institute-wise entrance tests

The Council of Architecture has issued a new mandate outlining new requirements for admission to the B.Arch. program. According to the new guidelines, a 10+2 Science stream pass with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects or equivalent certification is necessary to complete a B.Arch. degree. A minimum of 60% in the aggregate is necessary.

Relevant Diploma programs (10+3 type Diploma courses) are covered by equivalent qualifications. Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are required topics for the Diploma test.

2. Admission:

The admission is merit-based at  prestigious institutions.Candidate  must attempt and pass the appropriate entrance exam(s). NATA, JEE, and institute-specific entrance tests are among the most common entrance exams for B.Arch. admission.

  1. Academics:

 B.Arch.  is a five years course. A student must pass the major test at the end of each academic year to get a B.Arch. degree. A candidate procures a B.Arch. degree if they successfully complete the course.

 4.  Registration with the  CoA:

After successful completion of B.Arch,it is required to register with the CoA to work as a professional architect in India. The Council of Architects (CoA) maintains a database of architects in India who provide professional services. It is required to have your name on this register in order to become a professional architect.

5. How is the profession:

For creative and enthusiastic people who want to use their creativity to create something new that is both attractive and functional.

Architects collaborate closely with experts from  various fields, including engineering and design. As a result, architects frequently gain a comprehensive and wide perspective on  problems and are able to address them in novel ways. However, architecture is definitely one of the most challenging and demanding occupations. Additionally, if one wishes to pursue a career in architecture, one must be creative and willing to learn while working in fast-paced situations. This profession is a combination of arts, science, maths and technology.

The profession is also challenging as it is quite competitive profession and need to follow deadlines and workloads might fluctuate throughout the year.

6. Beginning after the course:

Architects need to combine technology with superior planning to build smart structures. Candidates must complete an internship program with a working architect or an architectural firm after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in architecture in order to get practical experience and rise their career prospects.

Architects may gain experience by working for construction businesses or working independently. Government agencies such as the Public Works Department,  Archeological Department, Ministry of Defense,  National Building Organization,  Town and Country Planning Organization,  National Institute of Urban Affairs, Departments of Railways, Post and Telegraphs, Public Sector Undertakings, and the Housing and Urban Development Corporation employ the majority of architects.  The State agencies, housing boards, municipal bodies for construction projects, builders, architectural firms, consultants, and other organizations all recruit and hire architects.

 7.Architecture prospects:

After degree, individuals can pursue the following job profiles:

  • Architecture Designer
  • Architecture Engineer
  • Landscape Architect
  • Architecture Draftsman
  • Technical Assistant
  • Project Assistant Manager
  • Manager
  • Interior Designer
  • Architectural Assistant
  • Architectural Historian/Journalist
  • Building Contractor

8.Salary for an architect in India

A candidate qualifying with strong academic record and from a  prestigious college or school of design, the beginning pay as a fresher might range from Rs.12,000 to Rs.15,000 per month. The income might rise to almost Rs.45,000/- per month or more as per your expertise you have gained working that again depends on the number of years you have worked. Based on your academic achievements, your monthly pay scale might be in the region of Rs.10,000 to Rs.12,000/-.

Further, if a candidate pursues an M.Arch. degree, they might earn a very high wage, depending again your academic excellence and the institute you graduated from. You may earn around Rs.25,000/- per month or Rs.40,000/- or perhaps more per month after gaining a few years of experience.

To summarise, well-experienced and highly trained architects has many opportunities in India. A good organisation would definitely pay handsome salary to the deserving candidates.
